This critically acclaimed play, developed at the National Theatre in London and based on the best-selling novel by Mark Haddon, has astonished audiences around the world and received seven Olivier and five Tony Awards® including best play on both sides of “the pond”.
The show tells the story of fifteen year old Christopher Boone, a neuro-atypical young man who struggles at times with everyday interactions, but excels at maths and detailed observation. As the audience gathers and the show opens, Christopher stands beside Mrs. Shears’ dead dog, which has been speared with a garden fork. It is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. Christopher has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and distrusts strangers, but his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a long and courageous journey that upturns his world.
Director John Forsythe stated, “this is the perfect show to welcome our students and audience back to live performances. It embodies the magic and story telling that only live theatre can provide. Christopher’s hero’s journey binds us together in the same way that stories transported audiences through the centuries, from the Greeks, to Shakespeare to Star Wars. It is so appropriate that we can celebrate his triumphs together around our stage set up in an open air festival tent.”
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time features an ensemble of 27 actors and showcases the tech work of dozens of York students. It will be presented October 14-17 at 6:30 pm, in a festival tent outside York High School. Audience members should check in at the York Auditorium entrance and will be directed to their seats. General admission tickets will be available October 1 at 8 a.m. online.
